The Minories is a very atmospheric venue, set beneath railway arches on the eastern edge of the
City of London (click the postcode above for a map).

The venue is of course non-smoking internally, but includes a large, partially covered outdoor seating area.

Travel
Transport links are excellent - the venue is close to Aldgate, Aldgate East and Tower Hill tube stations,
Tower Gateway DLR, and Fenchurch Street national rail station.

Night buses include the N15, which runs from Tower Hill into the central hub at Trafalgar Square,
and several others running from Aldgate, a short walk away.

There is a 24 hour car park in Shorter Street, very close to the venue. The overnight rate is £2.


Origins of the Name
Minories is a 13th century word relating to the nuns of the Order of Saint Clare. According to the
Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (under Clare, Order of Saint): "A religious order of women founded
in 1212, the second that St Francis instituted. The name derives from their first abbess, Clare of Assisi.
The nuns are also called Clarisses, Poor Clares, Minoresses, or nuns of the Order of Saint Francis."

Originally from the Friars Minor founded by St Francis of Assisi in 1209.
